About Us

Marin county breakdown is a family acoustic string band drawing from traditional bluegrass and old-time, plus some country, blues, rock, and jazz to create a contemporary california bluegrass sound.

Comprising of Gary Millar (dad) on banjo, Julie Steier (mom) on mandolin, Sarah Jo Millar (daughter) on bass and banjo, Cory McClintic (nephew) on guitar, and Daniel Coles (Sarah Jo’s partner) on guitar, MCB embodies the spirit of the California bluegrass community and their charisma is hard to deny. Although they have only been playing together as a band since 2019, Cory and Sarah Jo have been playing music with Julie and Gary for most of their lives. Now you can find them hosting a giant music festival jam, picking fiddle tunes at 12,000 feet on the John Muir Trail, or singing songs at a local Bay Area brewery, continuing to demonstrate how music can bring families and communities together.
